Global environmental policies have accelerated the iteration of air conditioning refrigerants, and traditional R22 refrigerants have gradually been replaced by environmentally friendly alternatives such as R32 and R410A due to their destruction of the ozone layer.

Global environmental policies have accelerated the iteration of air conditioning refrigerants, and traditional R22 refrigerants have gradually been replaced by environmentally friendly alternatives such as R32 and R410A due to their destruction of the ozone layer. The ozone layer depletion potential (ODP) of R32 refrigerant is 0, and its global warming potential (GWP) is only one-third of R410A, which is currently the mainstream upgrade direction. Currently, R32 accounts for over 60% of newly launched household air conditioners.
But R32 has slight flammability and requires higher installation technology. Professional personnel are needed to ensure sealing and avoid the risk of leakage. For users, refrigerant upgrades have two impacts: first, the initial procurement cost has slightly increased, with R32 models being 5% -10% more expensive than R410A models; Secondly, maintenance needs to be more standardized, and specialized equipment must be used when adding refrigerant. Improper mixing can cause damage to the compressor. In the future, R290 (propane) refrigerants with lower GWP are currently in the experimental stage, with better environmental performance, but higher requirements for equipment sealing due to their flammability and explosiveness. It is expected to be gradually promoted after 2030.
